Poor Pluto
We are
all taught in science classes that there were nine planets and
this was as clear as day.
A short
while ago, all the astronomy fans recieved a great surprise when
astronomers classify Pluto as “dwarf-planet”. Did Pluto really
deserve this?
In fact,
validity of Pluto’s planethood was always a matter of
controversy since its discovery way back in 1930. First of all,
it was the smallest one among the other eight and that’s where
all these controversy stem from. Well, at least it seems so.
As a
response to the debate going on for decades, International
Astronomical Union set three criteria which must be complied in
order to be accepted to planethood.
First
criterion was that the planet candidates must be in a round
shape. And the second one is that the candidate must orbit the
Sun. So far, there’s no problem in Pluto’s account.
However,
IAU’s third criterion says ‘a planet must dominate its
own orbit’. This domination means that it must clear the small
objects around. That’s where our beloved Pluto fails.
Pluto
was discovered by Clyde Tombaugh who passed away in 1997 at the
age of 90. His wife Patricia Tombaugh claims, if Clyde were
alive, being a devoted scienceman, this development wouldn’t
upset him. And she adds: “I feel like I sort of got demoted from
my job being the wife of the discoverer of Pluto. Now I’m the
wife of the discoverer of a dwarf planet.”
Poor
Pluto, our generation will never take you as a dwarf-planet.
One Little Basketball Note

Let me
give you a secret: I am a basketball fan.
Let me
give you another one: I like it Pistons style.
Just
like many other Bad Boys fans around the globe, I’ve been
totally thunderstruck when our Big Ben flew to Chicago this
summer.
Apart
from the frontcourt domination he brought along, Ben Wallace was
the face of Detroit Pistons. Yes, he was four-time
Defensive Player of the Year in the last five years; but what he
meant fro Pistons was something more than this.
With
Nazr Mohammed on the court instead of him, I wonder how our new
season will turn out. To tell the truth, first impressions were
disappointing, but nowadays Pistons seem to be getting on the
right track.
Sound of Rock’n’Roll

One final word on
Europe’s latest album Secret Society. This is the second
album after the reunion of the guys who once wrote The Final
Countdown back in 1986.
The album turned out to be another disappointment. That’s so sad to
say for a rock’n’roll fan but Today’s Europe doesn’t sound much
like the one in 80’s. This huge disappointment led me to an hour-long
telephone conversation with my bro. The topic was, as you can
guess, what takes our good old favourite bands away from making
the same music which they made successfully decade(s) ago ( I
want to disclude my all-time favourite AC/DC from this
generalization).
We came
to no reasonable conclusion but a monetary squeeze (in
Dire Straits’ words).
We are
sorry to see our legendary favourite bands gone!
Keep on rocking!
