On a Park Bench in Washington Square
by
Patrick Julian Cassidy

I’m just a poet
who didn’t
know what
he was
getting
into

after
spending
a lifetime
on the
far south side
of Chicago
I let it all go
after one
last season
of being
drenched from
the rain and
the snow
knowing that
there was
only one
place
to go
a space
a place
called Bohemia…

my destiny
was a
park bench
in Washington Square
my fate
writing love poems
to the young
and the fair
as my emotions
ranged from
euphoria
to utter despair
the words
flowed from my
soul through
the pen
the poet’s
own form
of organism
every day
I did it again
until it became
my new persona

Hanna, the Korean Queen
walking through the daylight
like a midnight dream
the closest thing
to a lioness
that I have
ever seen
that walks
upon two legs
my groins
beg
to explore
your desires
and stoke
the fires of Erotica

Sitting on
a park bench
in foggy San Francisco
watching the
world go by
