Take a Boat to Uskudar and Sit at the Rear to Face the Sunset
by
Korkut Onaran
her curves
her domes
and shores
the city
she swims
into the sun
setting over the historic peninsula
the city
proud
worried
hazy
she hears whispers
in forgotten languages
whispers travel
through past civilizations
and touch
her domes
curves
her shores
the city swims
in these whispers
into the sunset
proud
worried
hazy
and the darkness settles over the city
slowly
like lips closing after a long kiss
and a fresh breeze
like fingertips on some tender skin
and the monuments
dressed in colored lights
and the seagulls
whirling around the minarets
all like a gaze that goes deep
and remaps your psyche
the city
proud
worried
the city
swimming
