Phantom Lover
by
Zvi A. Sesling

Lights in the room on the
                        third floor
Shine haunting yellow like a
                        cat’s eye
Shadows on the wall dance
                        like ghosts
Sounds of the past echo in hallways on a
                        record player
Her body lies decaying on a bed
                        of tears
Has he left her or died in
                        the desert
Has he died in the desert or found
                        another lover
Does he have another lover or is
                        his shadow
On the wall her lover – never turn off
                        the light
Or he will disappear – forever a
                        fleeting thought
