Guinevere
by
Anna Rabinowitz

In Bresson's film “Lancelot of the Lake”,
After too many dead
And too much blood shed,

Guinevere tells Lancelot he sought
God,
not the Grail-

God -elusive, evasive, unseen, unknown,
Off in the elsewhere, somewhere, nowhere-

Carnivore starved for human flesh
(Will he never get his fill?)

Seated on his throne of immolation
Loving us to pieces, as we do our children,
Lusting to eat us up…

It's a matter of creation
and possession,

The anguish of desire
