Wages Of Sin

Anna Rabinowitz

Belated kerfuffle in a belated place,
And the opulent penny hunkers on the sill

While the door slams its back

To the wind and rain the window abhors.

The opulent penny hunkers on the sill
Though it covets the bed plumped for love
The wind and rain and window ignore.

The table bursts out with a do re mi fa
To the moon-struck bed plumped for love.

The sofa of song belts out high C's.

The table staccatos do re mi fa,

The chair yowls, the desk drones
To the sofa of song's butchered high C's,

Fractured discord courts harmonic debris:

Chair aclack, desk ayelp, stool acraze,

Clash, jam, jangle, jig the daily serenade:

Blustery discord of harmonic debris.

Crescendo/diminuendo: the door comes unhinged,

Beats time agitato as the daily serenade
Brays its clamor of chords in belated place.
