My Birthday
by
Ajayi Olubunmi Kolade

They told me I was born a boy
Escaping Austria
And the sun was high
And kingish,
And grasses went subcutaneous
And most mowers took leaves,
And lilacs were pearls
And my new year starts that day–
Around mid fore-trimesteric tail
