By The Ocean, A House Covered In Snow
by
Chris Caruso

Tonight pigeons seek to be born
Earthworms complete circles

Mother, why are you waiting?
Feet bare, asking for nothing?

They tell us what is to be

Moth, powder of the flowers: rose, tulip, lily
Depart now the face so familiar

Your footprints in snow, breath on the window. Fingers
Waiting, waiting for today, for a tomorrow.

That ocean is a beast, so I believe

Your fingers press opposite sides of glass. For you,
Is it the way to force them together.

Mirror of the ocean
I have lost the table, times, location

The proof of you fades from the reflection.

The line will end

The snow trampled,
The clock hasn’t stopped.

Bitter pears going soft on a shelf
